This past week has been a "Stay-cation" for Mr J and me. He has some days off and so we decided to spend it at home and just diddle daddle around the town. I am not that big on travel anyway. I hate to pack up all my this and that and drag it all around. I also love my own fridge, bed, bathroom, and familiar places. I also have a very hard time leaving the little fur children, Molly and Lulu.
Having our little vacation at home has been a lazy dazy, no big decisions, stress free enjoyable week. In fact the biggest decisions we have had to make this week has been whether to go to Albertson's, Costco, and the library, or watch movies, make cookies, read mysteries, afternoon nap and then do shopping and such, the next day. Hard, stressful, decisions, right? It has been a free, open ended, and ever so nice few days, even if those days were mostly cold, cloudy, gray and drizzly.
For quite a while we have been going on what we call Day-Trips. We usually take the camera and make the excuse that we are going out for a photo day hoping to find some good painting ideas. That has worked very well for me. Most of my landscape paintings have come from ideas and points of interest that come from those Day-Trip photos. I am not looking for a grand beautiful setting but just a piece of the landscape that somehow hits an interest point for me ... a shadowed tree, a bent fence post, a weedy edge along on a road, a line of trees against the mountain ..... pieces of something that might work sometime in a painting. Mr J is looking for a time out of the city where the air is clear and there might be a place for a short interesting walk or little hike. We always stop at a convenience store and buy a handful of cookies, candy bars, chips and bottles of soda and juice. That makes it feel like a real trip. By the time we get home the car is full of crumbs and often the camera is full of snapshots.
This week the weather was only good one day. Mr J went fishing that day in Spanish Fork Canyon and I went to visit my sisters in Provo. We took the camera but, did not get any interesting photos on that trip. I have put a few shots of places we photoed this summer. I am hoping some pieces of them will show up in future paintings.
It's Halloween tonight... Run fast from ghosts, goblins and ghouls...
